We love data so when Glassdoor dropped its 2025 Work-Life Trends report, we couldn’t resist diving in. The report highlights key shifts in how employees are navigating their careers and what employers must consider in the years ahead. We’ll break down the key insights, add our own expert take, and help you turn these trends into a competitive advantage.

Trend 1: Employees’ Pent-Up Resentment Will Boil Over

After years of uncertainty, many employees feel frustrated and burned out. This built-up resentment can show up as disengagement or even leaving their jobs. The data shows many workers feel “stuck” in their roles. As a result, employee turnover is expected to rise once the market picks up again as workers look for better opportunities.

Our Response:

The best way to prevent frustration is by focusing on open communication and employee engagement. Companies can create spaces where employees feel heard and valued. Leaders who show empathy and listen to their teams will help rebuild trust and keep employees motivated.

For example, one of our clients in the tech industry saw a significant rise in turnover among their engineering team, as employees felt their career growth was stagnant. After implementing quarterly check-ins and restructuring communication channels, they were able to re-engage their employees.

Trend 2: Falling Down the Career Ladder Will Stunt Pay and Career Growth for Workers

Some workers may feel stuck in their careers, especially if they’re not moving up the ladder as expected. When employees don’t see opportunities for growth, they can become dissatisfied with their jobs. This stagnation could result in pay cuts and fewer career prospects.

Our Response:

Instead of relying on traditional promotions, companies can focus on offering more ways for employees to grow. Rethinking the traditional career ladder. This might include training programs, opportunities to learn new skills, or even moving into different roles through a lateral shift. This way, employees feel supported and motivated, no matter where they are in their careers.

Trend 3: Gen Z Will Make Up 1 in 10 Managers in 2025

By 2025, Gen Z will be taking on more leadership roles. This generation brings a new perspective to the workplace, with a focus on technology, inclusivity, and collaboration.

Our Response:

We’re excited to see Gen Z step into leadership positions! To help them succeed, consider investing in leadership development programs that focus on their strengths, like innovation and diversity. These new leaders will help companies stay fresh and connected to the needs of today’s workforce.

Trend 4: Side Hustle Culture Fuels New Paths to Career Growth

More and more people are taking on side hustles - extra work or projects outside of their main jobs (especially younger workers). This trend is opening new ways for people to grow their careers and skills.

Our Response:

Side hustles are a positive way to help employees develop new skills. Instead of seeing side projects as distractions, companies can support them by offering flexible work hours and opportunities for learning. This encourages creativity and helps employees feel more engaged in their work.

For example, we've seen an uptick in companies who take an interest in candidates who have side hustles. These candidates often demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit, time management skills, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities - qualities that can translate into enhanced performance in their primary roles.

Trend 5: Employers Are Investing in Holistic Wellbeing

Employee wellbeing is now a top priority for companies. This includes supporting employees’ mental, physical, and emotional health, not just focusing on work performance.

Our Response:

Companies that provide wellness programs, flexible work options, and mental health support will see happier, more productive employees. Go beyond perks and create a supportive environment for employees ensures they can thrive professionally and personally.

Looking Ahead: Rising Work-Life Themes

Work-life balance and flexibility will become even more important. Employees want more control over their schedules and a better balance between their work and personal lives. Companies that focus on these needs will have a better chance of attracting and keeping great talent.
